April Ross

April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals at least twice in an Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman, who is a first-time Olympian. More than that though Ross hopes to win her very first Olympic gold. At 39, this could be Ross' last chance to win the Olympic gold. The athlete is optimistic she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross told NBC Boston that if they play their best, or play a great game her team can win a gold medal. It's also going to be a matter of chance. Ross was born the 22, 1982, located in Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area along with her entire family. While at Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of different sports. She was a basketball player and also ran track, in addition to her volleyball skills in the indoors as a pre-collegiate athlete. She clearly was the top at the sport of indoor volleyball. Based on her bio, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle volleyball player during her senior year at high school. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. Also, she won the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major player on the beach scene even before the pair formed. The fact is, she's been a winner of numerous major tournaments and one partner was a volleyball superstar. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Together with Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international circuit winning the world championship in 2009. The duo would go through to take home a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she announced her retirement. Together, they took home bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics in the year the year 2016. Ross competed for USC Trojans in her college years before becoming a professional. She had a great run in college. In her first year at the school, 2000 was when she won the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of Award and also be named an All-American. She was also an integral player to help the Trojans reach the Final Four. After her sophomore year she suffered a devastating personal loss and still managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. The two years following her she led the Trojans up to the summit and clinched consecutive national championships. She had established herself as an all-time legend winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the privilege of watching Ross' daughter blossom into the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross's mother passed away from breast cancer when she was in her sophomore year at USC. This meant that Ross continues to be close to her deceased parent. Margie is an inspiration on and off of the shore.
